Hello! My name is Mary Covelli. I am currently a sophomore at Illinois State University. I am majoring in Journalism.

This website is part of a final assignment for a literary studies class I am taking. This class focused on the Civil Rights Movement and looked at several important people who helped to fight for the rights of African Americans. The class was assigned a semester long research project where we were asked to gather information on a current societal issue and propose our own plan of activism.

Since I have strong feelings towards the issue of mass shootings and gun violence in this country, I decided to do my research on school shootings and what is being done to prevent them. I am personally against the idea of arming teachers as a way of protecting schools.

Through this website, I wanted to share the views of other students, particularly those who have unfortunately experienced a school shooting. I felt that they would be best suited to provide an argument against arming teachers.

Students should not fear for their safety at school. I hope that my website helps to spread awareness about this issue.
